What is war?
War is a conflict between or among two or more
political groups, traditionally States.
Characteristics
Actors
State actors
In the archetypal war, or inter-State war, actors are States, and often dispute over territory or resources.
Non-State actors
In Civil war, or other forms of conflict aside inter-State war, actors are non-State, such as guerrilla groups, resistance movements and terrorist organizations.
Organization
War is organized
Executed by armed forces or trained fighters. These ones act in accordance with some type of strategy, in contrast to carrying out sporadic attacks
Scale or magnitude
For a conflict to be considered a "major" one, the United Nations has defiend that at least 1,000 deaths should occur annually in it.
Types of war
Limited wars
Also called Regional wars, are aligned with more limited objectives, such as the redefinition of boundaries or the expulsion of an enemy occupier

Hegemonic war
Global war that takes place to reshape the global balance of power through the economic and social mobilization of resources.
Guerrilla war
It is a "popular" or people's war in which irregular war groups participate with techniques adapted to the terrain. In addition, guerrilla groups characterize these wars by their great mobility and surprise factor.
Total war
A social war that includes compulsory military service, the great economic investment in military purposes and in the objective of achieving victory through the massive destruction of enemy targets, civil and military.
Civil war
An armed conflict between two or more political organizations within a state, usually fighting for control of the state.
