Hoarding Disorder
Definition
Hoarding disorder is characterized by a continuous difficulty eliminating or leaving with possessions due to a perceived desire to preserve them.
Hoarding can be minor or serious. Sometimes it doesn't influence your life, but in other cases, it may have a massive effect on your everyday functioning.
Causes:
- Having a family member who suffers from the disease
- A brain damage causes the urge to save things.
- Traumatizing life incident
- Depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder are examples of mental illnesses.
- Buying behaviors that are out of control.
- Incapability to reject giveaways such as coupons and ads

- Garbage and Trash Hoarding
Treatment:
Antidepressants:
- Called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
- These medications, including venlafaxine (Effexor®) and paroxetine (Paxil®), can alleviate symptoms mainly when they are accompanied by cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Avoidance:
There is no known technique to avoid hoarding disorder yet. However, like with many psychological health issues, seeking therapy as soon as a problem arises can help avoid hoarding from worsening.
