Changes in state
there are 3 states :solid, liquid and gas.
Liquid
:The atoms un liquid water are closed together, but move around freely.
Gas
:The atoms in gaseous steam are further apart and move quickly in all directions.
Solid
:The atoms in ice are packed together tighly and do not move around much.
Changes in shape, position and texture
Matter can change the shape, position and texture. You crumple a flat piece of aluminium foil into a ball, it maintains its chemical composition, but the shape, position and texture of the foil changes.
Types of physical changes
Physical changes can be
reversible
and
irreversible
REVERSIBLE
: There changes can be reversed. We can freeze juice to make ice lollies, they melt and become liquid again.
IRREVERSIBLE
:These changes are permanent. We cut a piece of paper or cloth into pieces, we can never restore them to their original condition.
Mass, volume and density
MASS
The amount of matter that an objet contains.
GRAMS(g)
KILOGRAMS(kg)
VOLUME
Physical space than a objet occupies.
MILILlITRES (ml)
and
LITRES(l)
DENSITY
The amount of matter that occupies a space. Can circulate density by dividing the mass by the volume.
GRAMES(g)
