        The Concept of Discriminant
        
        In the equation ax² + bx + c = 0,
        
        If Δ = b² - 4ac > 0, there are two distinct real roots.
        
        If Δ = b² - 4ac = 0, there are two equal real roots.
        
        If Δ = b² - 4ac < 0, there is no real root and the solution set is empty.
      - Divide all terms by the coefficient of x².
      - Find b/2.
      - Find (b/2) ².
      - Add (b/2)² to both sides of the equation.
      - Complete the square on the left-hand-side of the equation.
      - Keep the squared term on the left-hand-side and the constants on the right-hand-side.
