Acids and Alkali's
PH scale
The PHscale stands for the Potential of Hydrogen in a substance. So the stronger the acid/alkali the more hydrogen it has gained.
The scale of the PH is a range of 14. It also goes up in gradient like colours. It goes from deep red to a green to a dark purple almost black.
Neutralisation
Neutralisation is a chemical reaction in which an acid reacts with a base to form a neutral substance/salt and water.
We tested neutralisation in class by using hydrichloric acid and sodium chloride and mixing them together.

Indictators
-
You can make yor own indicator using red cabage. You get three sliced pieces of red cabbage and crush them in a pestle and morter. You then get boiled water and then use a pippette to use.
An indicator is a scientific product which shows is an alkali or acid is strong or weak. It can also show if a substance is neutral. The universal indicator and the PHscale are very similiar.
Acids
-
Things like lemon juice, coke and viniger are acids.

Alkalis
Alkalis include, Sodium hydroxide, hand wash and bleach. They taste soapy even though of them are edible.
