USES
To talk about a specific action or event that started and ended in the past.
EXAMPLE: Kate worked last Saturday
To speak about a series of actions that ocurred in the past.
EXMPLE: I recieved the good news and called my sister.
To talk about facts or things in the past in general.
EXAMPLE: The Aztect lived in Mexico.

Subject + Verb in past
I wanted to dance
NEGATIVE
All other verbs
Subject + Did + not + Verb
I did not talk
To be:
Subject + Was/Were + not + Verb
I was not there
INTERROGATIVE
All other verbs:
Did +Subject + Verb
Did you talk ?
To be:
Was/ Were + Subject
Was she a doctor?
PAST CONTINUOUS
USES
For an action in progress in the past and that was interrupted.
EXAMPLE: He was walking to work when he fell
Actions or events that happened at a specific time in the past.
EXAMPLE: Paula wasn't living in Spain in 2008.
