Chemistry of the environment: WRP_Chemistry_13.5.22, Avantika- Nitrogen and Carbon cycles
Nitrogen cycle:
-
Nitrogen fixation: Leguminous plants have nitrogen fixing bacteria growing in their root nodules. They convert nitrogen in air to nitrate in soil.
-
-
Sometimes, during lighting, the nitrogen in the air gets converted into nitrate.
-
-
-
Carbon cycle:
-
-
They die and decompose layer after layer, and get converted into marble and fossil fuels.
Carbon is given off during the combustion of fossil duels extracted from crude oil. E.g. CH4 (Formed in air pockets above the crude oil) + 2O2 ---> CO2 + 2H2O + Energy
Phyto planktons are tiny plants in oceans. They are responsible for the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.
