Multiverse Rescue Mission
Summary: On a normal day at the Superconductor, a bug in the system created a situation that caused your team to be trapped in 11 separate pocket dimensions. There exists a teleportation robot that can help everyone get home.
What information do we know about the robot?
You're able to switch one lever from A to B or vice versa so that the robot can note your dimensional position.
If the button is pushed, it will take everybody who pulled a lever back home.
The robot has two levers and one big button.
Everyone must pull the lever before the button is pushed or some of the team will be lost in a different dimension forever.
The robot can travel to every dimension at random.
Robot starts with both levers in position A.
Rules to make a plan before the robot starts dimension hopping.
A person much change exactly one lever from position A to B or B to A, or hit the button.
No one can change both levers' position, do nothing, move a lever partway, leave a note on the robot, or alter the robot itself.
Eleven members of your team stuck in separate pocket dimensions.
Every time the robot teleports, it has an equal change of arriving at any of the 11 team members.
With the information you are given, it is now your job(the students) to make a plan that ensures all eleven team members have pulled a lever before the button is pushed.

Students will fill in their ideas for a plan
Solution (will be given after students have brainstormed their own plan)
Only one person out of the eleven people needs to know if everybody has pulled the lever so that they can push the button and send everybody home.
The plan is to use the left lever to count visits and the right level will have no meaning. Each of the others will pull the left lever from position A to B exaclty once. If the left lever is at position B, then you will pull the right lever. The person in charge of the button is the only one able to reset the left lever from position B to A.
This gives you a way to count how many people have been visited by the robot. Everyone needs to pull the left lever down exactly once and the person in charge is the only one allowed to pull it back up.
So the 10th time that the robot visits you with the left lever in the down position, it must have visited all ten of the others and that it will be safe to press the button and send everyone home.
Question to think about.
What if the robot had 4 levers instead? How else could you communicate with your team to expedite the process of returning home?
