INTRODUCTION
Modification
of our lives in terms of: new
economical conceptions
,
new
technological and scientific developments and new
social values.
Teachers
face
by their own means
to the new emerging problems.
Affecting their
moral
as they have to
criticize
their own education systems.
Teachers must
continue
their
human
and professional training for the
new demands
of society.
SOCIAL CHANGE
Teachers' need
to
analyze
this aspect as a
first task
, and to develop a
job
of
quality.
Transformation
of the job, the
social image
and the
conception
of teachers.
Concept to
understand the identity issues
that
affect
teachers and their professional lives.
EDUCATIONAL CHANGE
Cuban (1992)
points out that all transformations involve a
dialectical reconstruction
of what exists.
To understand it, we
cannot
focus only on the analysis of the
teaching role
, nor on the
study of classroom changes
.
The study of historical contexts
is an indispensable element for understanding the state of the education system
A
system
is a composed structure of
interrelated elements
, in which modifying an element induces a change in other elements
(Colom, 2002) to
*make decisions about a system
, it must start from the
analysis of the evolution of the system in recent years
, and try to
clarify the genesis of the current problems
and the causes that
trigger
them
Bowe and Ball (1992)
originates in three contexts:
2. The political and administrative context:
tries to
order
reality by means of
laws and decrees
with a limited capacity for change, since
they cannot modify the mentality of teachers
or the meaning of their work in the classrooms.
3. The practical context:
refers to the
real work
of teachers
1. The macro context:
covers the
evolution
of social forces, political groups and economic sectors, which project to the educational system
nonstop demands for adaptation
to social change, as well as to new production systems.
THE THIRD EDUCATIONAL REVOLUTION (A SILENT ONE)
As time goes by,
education has evolved in different aspects
, such as
how
to educate, in the
recognition
of value as human beings , as well as in terms of
inclusion
,
equity
and
equality
among all members of an educational institution
Changes that affect the professional identity of teachers
The
difficult task
is for
teachers
, since they must be in a
constant search of possible solutions to support
the students with their learning processes. The teacher
is a facilitator of knowledge
, but he/she is also responsible for promoting
human and social values, critical thinking
, besides of being a model to follow for students.
However
, for teachers it is difficult to
assimilate
this renewed educational system, since
day by day new challenges appear
due to the transformation process that the educational systems have lived in the last thirty years (Commission Européenne, 2002)
CHALLENGES
changes
teachers have faced:
The
media
as
alternative
sources of information, the
need
to develop new
strategies
within the classroom, the social
judgment of teaching
and the criticism to teaching system
In addition, the
fragmentation of teaching role
and the
adaptation
of contents for all students
These challenges
have been great difficulties for the teaching practice nowadays
, as many teachers belong to the
traditional
educational model, and they find difficulties to adapt their classes to
technology
, including the
new teaching methodologies
