Fractured nose and deviated nasal septum
Nursing management
Advise the patient to breath through mouth when the nose had trauma to avoid blood drainage into the throat.
Apply ice packs or cold compresses immediately after the injury, and then at least four times a day for the first 24 to 48 hours to reduce swelling.
Keep the ice or cold compress on for 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Wrap the ice in a washcloth to prevent frostbite. Try not to apply too much pressure, which can cause additional pain or damage to your nose.
Keep the head of the patient up
Administer pain relieverrs as prescribed by the Dr
In case the nose was reconstructed in theater: make sure that you note and check the vital signs of the patient
Apply dressings as per doctor's order
Note snd report any abnormal Haemorrhage
Definition
straight and separates the nose into two equal chambers. After trauma such as a fractured nose, the septum may become deviated, creating asymmetrical breathing passages.
Clinical manifestations
Obstruction to nasal breathing
Dryness of the nasal mucosa causing bleeding.
Swelling of the nose and surrounding areas
Pain or tenderness, especially when touching your nose
Causes
Causes may differ it can be physical altercations
Motor vehicle accident
Falls
Injury from contact sports like soccer
Assault
