Pathophysiology
Most cataracts develop when aging or injury changes the tissue that makes up the eye's lens
Proteins and fibers in the lens begin to break down
That causes vision to become hazy or cloudy
Some inherited genetic disorders that cause other health problems can increase your risk of cataracts
Nursing intervention
Assess degree of impairment
Tell patient and relatives to maintain safety of the patient
Keep patient's glasses near
Make sure the room is not too dim or light
Encourage patient to use damp soft facecloth to remove discharge
Tell patient to consult the doctor if they experience pain, a decrease in vision or increase in redness
