Digestive & Urinary System
Major Functions of the Digestive System
breaks down & absorbs nutrients, makes energy, helps with growth and repairing cells
Major Functions of the Urinary System
Filter salt & waste, maintain normal concentrations of electrolytes, regulate pH and body fluid vol, & help control RBC and blood pressure
Major Organs of the Digestive System (15A)
Major Accessory Organs
Salivary Glands: make saliva that have enzymes to break down carbohydrates
Liver: makes bile
Gallbladder: stores bile & release to SI
Pancreas: makes pancreatic juice
Alimentary Canal Organs
Mouth: breakdown food
Pharynx: mouth to esophagus
Esophagus: pushes food to stomach
Stomach: makes acid and enzymes & mixes food
Large Intestine: absorbs water to make feces
Rectum & Anus
Digestive Enzymes (functions & name)
Salivary Amylase:
starts carbohydrate digestion by breaking
down starch to disaccharides
Pepsin:
Begins protein digestion
Pancreatic Amylase:
Breaks down starch into disaccharides
Pancreatic Lipase:
Breaks down fats into fatty acids and glycerol
Proteolytic Enzymes:
Break down proteins or partially digested proteins into peptides
Nucleases:
Break down nucleic acids into nucleotides
Peptidase:
Breaks down peptides into amino acids
Sucrase, maltase& lactase:
Break down disaccharides into monosaccharides
Intestinal Lipase:
Breaks down fat into acids & gycerol
Enterokinase:
Converts trypsinogen into trypsin
Location of Digestive absorption of each Macromolecule
Small Intestine: it absorbs digestive end products
Located in the lower abdomen from the stomach to large intestine
Layers of the GI Tract (including stomach)
Layers are: 1) Mucosa (inner)
2) Submucosa
3) Muscularis
and 4) Serosa
Nephron Anatomy & Physiology
The nephron can make urine alone. Its made up of renal corpuscle and renal tubule.
Disorders of the Digestive and Urinary Enzymes
A frew from the Digestive system there is: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and Celiac disease & more
Some in the Urinary System there is: STI, HIV, AIDS, genital warts, gonorrhea & more
Major Organs of the Digestive System
Adrenal Gland, Kidney, Renal Artery, Renal Vein, Hilum, Inferior vena cava, abdominal aorta, Uriniary Bladder and Urethra
