Rocket Scientists
The great powers wanted the rocket scientists because they knew how to make intercontinental missiles, as rockets were imagined as a giant bullet
The powers needed to know that they were equipped with powerful weapons, as a defense mechanism
There were two main scientists that were involved with this process: Helmut Gröttrup and Wernher Von Braun. Helmut originally worked voluntarily for Russia however was later forced to work in the USSR. Von Braun supervised Helmut and was forced to work for the United states
Conclusion
What lessons can we learn from the 20th century geopolitics of space in order to envision the future of space exploration?
Space exploration has always been done to benefit someone and as a result of some conflict. As we are going to continue to explore space we think that humanity must do it not to be better than someone nor to be better equipped with military arms. For that the agreements must be better made, so than it doesn't favour no one, and we have to be careful to not destroy any celestial body during our exploration.
