Altered sleep pattern and discomfort
Risk of fluid volume deficit related to drainage of fluids or pus from the ear
Infection related to increased temperature fever
Nursing intervention
Administer prescribed medication such as analgesics like paracetamol and antibiotics like amoxicillin for pain and infection
Nurse the patient in a comfortable position in lateral position to facilitate drainage
Use ear wick to absorb discharge from the ear and keep the ear dry

Expected outcomes
No discharge from the ear and the ear dry
Temperature back to normal levels
No pain reported by the patient
Patient able to hear

Investigations
- a physical exam and an ear exam and by asking questions about past health
- uses a tool called a pneumatic otoscope to look at the eardrum for signs of an ear infection or fluid buildup.
