winter term chemistry
acids
common acids are: HCl - hydrochloric acid, H₂SO₄ - sulfuric acid, HNO₃ nitric acid
-
-
metals
-
when a metal reacts with a acid, a reaction happens.
examples of some metals are; iron, zinc, lead, neon and gold
-
acid and alkali
-
examples of alkalis
magnesium hydroxide, lithium hydroxide
-
squeaky pop test
to perfrom a squeaky pop test you need to get the substance you are testing then add hyrdochloric acid into the beaker. immediatly, hold your test tube above the mixture to collect the hyrdogen. then put a lit splint into the test tube, if it makes a squeaky pop noise it has hydrogen gas present.
-
salt
examples
iron sulfate, calcium sulfate, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride
it will always end in either, sulfate, chloride or nitrate
metal carbonates
examples
calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate

-
-
periodic table
elements
-
some elements are lithium, sodium, potassium, carbon, boron and sulphur.
compounds
-
some compounds are copper chloride, calcium sulfate and carbon dioxide.
the reactivity series
the reactivity series acts as a ‘league table’ showing which metals are more reactive and therefore will displace another in a reaction.
