Pathophysiology
The skin is normally colonized by commensal bacteria, yeast, and parasites. The bacteria are located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis and in the infundibulum of hair follicles.
The density and composition of bacteria present depends on a variety of factors, such as the presence of water, nutrients, lipids, and the skin surface pH.
Resident bacteria compete with other organisms for living space and nutrients, and can produce molecules that are inhibitory to the growth of other microorganisms.

Definition
It is a localised form of infection that usually occurs following infection of hair follicle, which then result to an abscess.
