Nursing diagnosis
Altered sleep pattern and discomfort due to pain and infection of the ear
Loss of functions of the ear related to infection
Nursing intervention
Give prescribed analgesics to reduce pain and antibiotics for infection
Monitor vital signs especially temperature for infection
Maintain ear hygeine do dressing if required
Assess the ability of the patient to hear
Encourage the patient to do ear hygeine

Defination
is a boil that develops in the ear canal. It may be the result of infection deep in the skin resulting in pus formation in the boil.
Pathophysiology
A furuncle of external auditory meatus is a Staphylococcal infection of the hair follicle(s) and as these hair follicles are confined to the outer one-third of external auditory meatus, furuncles naturally are seen in this area only.
