What should my professional schedule look like in 2022 and going forward?
Options
Option 2: Do PTE at H and a second PTE at a trade-news publication or blog
Option 3: Do PTE at H and a substantial amount of freelance work writing journalism about IT
Option 4: Do PTE at H, a second PTE at a trade-news publication, and some freelance work to fill in the gaps while work ramps up at H and A
Option 1: get a FTE trade-news position
Factors
Having stable employment looks much better on my resume than freelancing forever
Freelancing allows me to keep fresh clips
I am overqualified to just do freelance reporting and have plenty of editorial experience
I didn't want to freelance to begin with; I still don't want to
Staff positions have better benefits and buy me office equipment
I can get more done, in terms of social justice/change, when I am in a staff position.
I need to maximize my income per hour and in total.
Freelancing pay is often delayed.
I am very interested in continuing to grow and develop my professional skills. But I also need to get more content out there.
Freelancing benefits from one being a public figure and/or self-promotional while staff positions are more oriented toward team players. I am more of a team player than a person who wants a platform.
I have difficulty keeping up with freelance taxes and would much rather work somewhere that they are withheld.
I really want job stability at this time in my life and career.
I already have the job skills I need to do my work well and do not need further training or education except for with video, photo and audio editing software and possibly Spanish.
H and A both have very good reputations as positive workplaces that would look good on my resume
Staff positions may be able to provide me with health insurance, which is a huge plus and something I cannot easily afford for myself.
Staff positions are less stressful than freelancing.
It seems like the trade press f/t positions I see pay less per hour than H.
Decision: I really need to be in staff positions all the time except for maintaining a few clips. These staff positions should be long-term, stable ones. They should also be positions with social and environmental benefits as part of their goals, preferably. I should tailor my resume toward these full-time and/or staff positions, not freelancing. I should consider these freelance stories I am doing right now as just filling the gap while I am increasing my hours at A and/or H (or future staff positions. Anchor clients are not as preferable as staff roles.
