- - - - Carbon dioxide

    - - Change naturally occurs as the Earth's orbit and tilt of its xis changes, as well as other phenomena such as frequent volcano eruptions or asteroid impacts.
      - But, human activities, have sped up this process. Human emissions of greenhouse gases have enhanced the greenhouse effect, which makes the Earth increasingly warmer than before.
        
        Human activities that are related to global warming
        
        Rise in carbon emissions
        
        Electricity consumption around the world has increased, so the need for caol-fueled power plants and other sorts of power plants have also increased, resulting in an increased amount of carbon emissions. Transportation also contributed to emissions.
        
        Local pollution
        
        Power plants, vehicles, and factories emit air pollutants that trap and absorb heat.
        
        Urban development
        
        More and mare land became urban areas, and industrial factories and power plants spring up here and there, emitting pollution. Tall buildings in cities bllock the dispersal of heat. Dust and dark concrete trap and absort heat, Human activities release more heat, and less vegetation is around to trap rainwater and cool down. As a result, cities become warmer and warmer, hence the "Heat-Island Effect".
- - - - Methane. A hydrocarbon gas produced both through natural sources and human activities, including the decomposition of wastes in landfills, agriculture, and especially rice cultivation, as well as ruminant digestion and manure management associated with domestic livestock. On a molecule-for-molecule basis, methane is a far more active greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, but also one which is much less abundant in the atmosphere.
      - Water vapor:The most abundant greenhouse gas, but importantly, it acts as a feedback to the climate. Water vapor increases as the Earth's atmosphere warms, but so does the possibility of clouds and precipitation, making these some of the most important feedback mechanisms to the greenhouse effect

- - - - the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere, due to the greater transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than to infrared radiation emitted from the planet's surface.
    - - It is theorized that on earth the increasing quantity of atmospheric carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels, together with the release of other gases, is causing an increased greenhouse effect and leading to global warming. A greenhouse effect involving CO2 is also responsible for the very high surface temperature of Venus. See also global warming.
