Jakarta's development follows the path that connects bogor, the former capital of Bogor, to the Ciliwung River in Batavia. Since the 1950s, Jakarta has undergone a period of almost constant outward expansion, with many ring roads added to accommodate the current metropolitan area, which is a collection of five metropolitan areas called Jabodetabek, including Jakarta, Bogor, Debo, Tangerang, and Bekasi. Despite the addition of multiple ring roads, the city's dominant axis is still located in its central north-south corridor. The introduction of Jakarta's first MRT system further reinforces the importance of this axis, which connects its financial and administrative centres along roads in the Sudirman Corridor. The question of how effectively the city will integrate into this new public transport system depends on whether it can successfully integrate the networks that have contributed to Jakarta's outward and linear growth.
