Reconstruction
Reintegration of the South
The North had to help with the over 500 000 injured throughout the country.
White Southerners weren't too pleased with some reconstruction policies
Very few persecutions for Southern officials were made after the war, softening the south's blow from defeat
Economic aid
The reconstruction financial aid was particularly more stronger with border states
Aid was given to most industries for them to try to keep up with northern industrialization
Economic aid was very sparse for certain individuals in the south
Cultural disputes
Uncle Sam was slowly being reintroduced over the "Dixie Boys" idea formed in the south
All African Americans were free and introduced to a sense of liberty
Eventually more states came to identify once again with the Union.
Consequences
Political
Segregation was introduced after Lincoln's death (Jim Crow)
Slavery was fully abolished
West Virginia was introduced as a new state
Social
Americans began feeling more patriotic for the country and not for their home state
A lot of black resentment and racism grew in the south (KKK)
Culture war between north and south began healing
Economic
The agricultural economy of the south still remained strong
Slaves were no longer free work-hands, and it took a hit at plantations
Southern Economy got almost destroyed
