What is a Formative Assessment?
*is on-going assessment during a period of study.
*responds to the evolving needs of the learners.
*relates to identified learning objectives.
*implies scaffolding learning to help learners reach identified learning objectives.
Formative Assessment
*Has a natural affiliation with teaching and learning
*Emphasises interaction, support, development
*Takes into account the effect of external social-cognitive factors on the individual-cognitive response.
What is Summative Assessment?
*Are tests at the end of a period of study.
*Is tipically linked to and looks back at the syllabus.
*Is an outward indication of the learner's ability.
*Outcomes relate to learner's performance in the topics, taks and linguistic exponents that appear in the test.
Summative Assessment
*End-of-term test.
*End-of-year school exams.
*Cambridge English exams.
*National exams or qualifications.

The formative purpose of assessment is to promote continued progress of the student.
