Malayan Communist Party
Many (esp in Chinese Community) remembered how the MCP had helped in the resistance against the Japanese in WW2. MCP worked to influence trade unions and Chinese medium Schools, stirring up anti-colonial feelings. It attack rubber plantations and tin mines in Malaya, many of which were owned and managed by the British. The MCP's actions further heightened British fears.

1955 Elections
In comparison to the elections in 1948 and 1951, the 1955 elections aroused a far greater interest and generated much political activity. People were encouraged by the greater degree of self-government promised in the Rendel Constitution. Those eager to press for change held discussions and more political parties emerged as a result.
