Tanka

Accidentally or deliberately mixing up the first letters in two or more words

Makes fun of traditional nursery rhymes, fairy tales, or well-known stories.

A poem with five lines. There is rhyme that depends on sound, not spelling and humorous in the punchline. Meant to be witty.

Works with letters and numbers at the same time. It can show the value of the poem not just the length.

Soliloquy

A dramatic monologue, the character is 'thinking out loud'

A series of poems that create a story together.

Often told by multiple narrators.

You get an insight into each character as they tell the story from their perspective.

Sonnet

always 14 lines and traditionally includes rhyme and rhythm.

Tells the joy and sadness of love and life.

may be written as 8 lines and six lines or three 4 lines and a couplet.

Song Lyrics

Have a strong rhythm and rhyme because it is meant to be sung.

often contains a chorus.

Usually emotional with simple and direct language that focuses on the feelings of the writer.
