recent MPP degrees occupy positions such as policy analyst or government relations manager for a nonprofit, or legislative advisor or research manager in an academic or government institution.
Public policy is the study of how laws, rules and regulations are created by government organizations. An MPP will equip you with the ability to deeply evaluate governments by analyzing their policies and examining their interactions with both the public and private sectors. A key differentiator between an MPP and a Master of Public Administration is that in an MPP program, you will focus on the design and evaluation of policy, as opposed to the implementation and management of it.
During your study, you will learn to craft and assess policy decisions within, and related to, governments at all levels – local, regional and federal agencies. You will prepare to make policy recommendations, taking into account the influence of other actors, such as industry, nonprofits and multinational organizations.
I decided to do an MPP because I wanted to be able to address local social problems and look for global policy solutions. After completing the program, I can better analyze the policymaking process and apply the tools I have learned to generate change.
Our mission is more urgent than ever: the world economy that has arguably never broken free of the 2008 crises and its shackles is yet again under enormous pressure following the global outbreak of COVID-19. Shifting global fundamentals has seen a new type of politics emerge in seemingly all global regions; forced migration from Latin America to the Mediterranean and beyond, millions face forced migration; the realities of climate change are hitting hard; and new challenges such as automation and labour market change are only now being fully understood. Somehow, policy-makers must find a way through, to improve the societies in which we live. The MPP is a powerful new tool in that effort.
Do you enjoy politics? Can you handle economics? Does a city budget excite you? Do you get bored focusing on one thing for too long? An MPP is a mix of economics, statistics, policy research, and politics, so if you get a kick out of crossing disciplines, switching gears at a moments notice, and always learning something new
want to be the world’s greatest problem solver. learn to get to the bottom of some of the biggest questions, problems, concerns, and expiring legislation facing us today; test possible plans of action; identify the political stakeholders; and ultimately come up with a solution that’s less than ideal (or rather, Pareto optimal), but publicly and politically sell-able.

what has influenced your career
path?
Since that time, I have dedicated myself to learning about international problems involving human rights and inequality through the Global Engagement concentration, with the hopes of and plan to entering a career where I can that will enable me to make a positive change in the world through impacting public policy.

You need to beef up your technical communication skills
MPPers, more than most academics, know how to communicate technical, complicated, boring stuff into plain English. You’ll learn not only to read long, academic research about the implications of a 65 MPH speed limit on safety, but also to digest that information and concisely put it into words even your apolitical grandma in Kansas can understand.
Through my education, I have developed strong research skills and persuasive writing skills as I have explored through my exploration of many social issues ranging from the interpersonal to the international.
What experiences do you have in your field?
These skills are reflected in have culminated to the current development of my senior thesis, which explores globalization and its effects on human rights.
for a community to be economically viable, it must make a concerted effort to work on both community development and economic development. They are interdependent and reinforce each other.
It is important to recognize that economic development and community development are not the same. Community development is a process for making a community a better place to live and work. Economic development is purely and simply the creation of wealth from which many community benefits are created.
So, in summary, community development is the process of making the community a better place to live and work and occurs primarily in the public sector. Economic development is the process of creating wealth, in which community benefits are created secondarily. To have a vibrant local economy, a community needs both community development and economic development.

Personal Intro - what got me to care about PP to begin with
Through my work and extracurricular activities, I have gained leadership experience through my time with GMU Army ROTC, as well as the arrangement of philanthropyic events with my Asian-American interest fraternity, and in various on-campus positions.
During my the early parts of my college career, I began to think found that I had many questions about the world I would soon enter, including primarily questions regarding inequality, religion, patriotism, and my own identity as a half Korean-American.
My passion for social change and activism is not something I’ve had all my life, but rather a passion that I have grown into.
