Education Sector Coordination within the UN in Times of Crises
Interest & Relevance
My current work context
The sector is still trying to find best ways to work together
It is expected that there will be even more crises in the future
There is a need for better coordination
Available funds are scarce, hence a need to achieve more with less, through better coordination
Durability
New crises will continue to appear in the future
Expected that coordination will improve but not be solved in the near future
Long-term objective which is open to inputs from various stakeholders, also in the coming years
Thesis can be tailor-made to specific UN agencies or the UN system as a whole
Breadth of Research Questions
The title is broad, but content could be defined to target a specific challenge area within the coordination
Rather too much information available or too many challenges, than the opposite
I would propose to focus on coordination related to exchange of data and information between UN Agencies and CSO representatives
Topic Adequacy
The topic covers both Education as well as Management elements
The depth of the topic is assumed to meet the Master level criteria
The topic is sector-specific and linked to a real professional challenge experience by staff within the UN
Access
Access to UN publications will not be a challenge
Access to scientific papers will not be a challenge
Access to interview key UN staff working on Education Sector Coordination should be possible, but is still to be defined
Access to interview key CSO staff engaged in Education Sector Coordination should be possible, but is still to be confirmed
Access to internal data available only to UN staff should not be a challenge, but is still to be confirmed
Micropolitics
I'm hoping to draft the thesis for the UNICEF Research Institute, which would hopefully back me in the findings
It is assumed that the UN system is open to criticism and suggestions on improvements, as there is an internal acknowledgement that the system is not yet flawless
I plan to get pre-approval for the topic from my employer and the UNICEF Research Institute, and in such way prevent any drawbacks from my organization
Risk & Security
Not being able to get access to new data or information, hence the thesis ending up simply compiling already known knowledge
Recommending actions or solutions which are not welcomed by the UN system or those currently leading the coordination of the Education Sector in times of crises
Objective would be to recommend concrete actions to develop the system, through evidence-based knowledge and recommendation by staff within the sector itself
