The Bible - shouldn't be able to read for themselves, only available in Latin, should be read in Latin by priests.
Sins - people are sinful, can be forgiven by praying or paying money to the Church.

Sacraments - 7, Confirmation, Baptism, Communion, Confession, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick.
Church Services - in Latin, help the Church to keep control over the people.
Communion - bread and wine literally changed into the body and blood of Christ, transubstantiation.
Churches - elaborately decorated to show God's glory. Paintings, statues of Jesus and the saints, candles, gold and jewels.
Priests - divine beings, rich elaborate clothing, speak in Latin, shouldn't marry, married to the Church. Shouldn't be subjected to the law of the land, only Church laws.

Churches - plain, not decorated, so can concentrate on what the minister is saying.
The Bible - everyone should be able to read for themselves, available in English.
Sins - people are sinful, can be forgiven by God and Jesus.
Sacraments - only some of the sacraments are necessary to get into Heaven, depends on teaching. In Henry VIII's Act of Ten Articles, baptism, communion and confession mentioned.
Communion - the bread and the wine only represented the body of blood of Christ, consubstantiation.
Priests - ordinary people, wear plain clothing, speak in English, allowed to get married, should be punished if they break the law.
Some priests ignored the vows of celibacy and chastity and were known for sexual immorality, e.g. Wolsey had two, possibly even three, children.
Lower clergy so poor, would earn about £10 a year, so spent the week growing food just to survive, like ordinary people, so didn't spend time educating the laity.
503 monasteries in England, 136 convents, 187 friars, Few had more than 25 inmates, lesser monasteries sometimes had only 4 or 5.
John Colet, a humanist, launched scathing attacks on the abuses of the Church, preached that holiness could only be achieved through the understanding of the scriptures. Came into conflict with the Church authorities, mainly the Bishop of London.
Some abbots in charge of monasteries had grown very wealthy. The income of some of the great abbeys like Glastonbury were huge, bigger than many of the gentry.
Benefit of the Clergy - allowed members of the clergy who had committed serious crimes to escape trial in secular courts and instead be tried in church courts, usually got off lightly,
Erasmus translated the New Testament into Greek in 1516 and found that the Latin Vulgate Bible had got the meaning of salvation wrong.
