China
- China has a large population, giving Europeans a chance to sell their products and make a profit. - China’s porcelain, silk and tea . China had no sufficient military power. -Big economy.
Africa
- The need for new raw materials and different outlets of investments.
- The political causes are more about competition for greatness or more powerful status.
-The religious is one of the most salient but one of the most important causes.
-They intended to bring ’superior’ civilization to the more ‘uncivilised’ or ‘unprivileged’ areas. -
The white man’s burden was very important.
India
-they came to make a profit from trade. - They took an advantage of the population. -They sold Indian goods. -Raw materials. -social darwinism - Trading things such as opium and cotton from India for tea from China. -Felt that they were obligated to westernize other races of people.
