RISE On-Track Data
RISE is a program Meriden Public Schools partners with that provides templates, protocols, and tool to improve student achievement
For a student to be considered "On-Track" they must be passing 6 classes, no suspensions, 90% or better attendance

Principle #1
Peripheral Vision
People use peripheral vision and decide what the page is about. If you want users to concentrate on a certain part of the screen, don’t use any animation or blinking elements in the peripheral vision.
Poster: Normally, I like to decorate as much space on a poster as possible, but I am going to avoid using flashy objects on the boarders of the poster
Peripheral vision are areas that are visible but we are not looking at them directly.
Principle #2
Close Together Belong Together
If you want items to be seen as belonging together, then put them in close proximity. Put more space between items that do not belong together.
Changing the space between objects can be sufficient enough rather than using lines or boxes to separate objects.
Poster: When using the images of the data pulled directly from the RISE website, I will be sure to include titles and labels close together.
Poster: Normally, I separate things with lines or boxes, but I am going to try and show that objects are not together just with an adequate amount of space
Principle #3
Capital Letters
People perceive all capitals as shouting and we are not used to reading all capital letters so use it sparingly. Save all capital letters for headlines and when you need to get someone’s attention.
Poster: Only using capital letters for the headline of the poster and/or titles of the graphs and data
Poster: I will be avoiding using sentences and words that have all capital letters unless it is an absolute need such as a header
Tips & Tricks
Establish a Focal Point
Visual element that catches the eye and serves as a starting point for users to navigate your design
Poster: The focal point will be the 9th Grade overall On-Track graph
Achieve Balance
Achieve balance through the position of text and images
Poster: I am going to avoid overcrowding and cluttering the space. Make a nice flow and balance between colors, images, and text. Make it one cohesive peice
Create a Background for Your text
Creating a space where the text is easy to see and read is important
Poster: I plan on using a background for any supporting text explanations for the graphs
