IRF (INITIATION-RESPONSE-FEEDBACK) ON CLASSROOM
DEFINITION
Classroom interaction cannot be separated from the teacher and students. It has a certain pattern one of them is IRF pattern. This pattern stands for initiation-response-feedback, is a pattern of discussion between the teacher and learners.
Initiation (I), initiation is the teacher ask a question or action to initiate students to do interaction in classroom. It is the effort of the teacher in pushing the students to drop their selves in a communication or interaction
Response moves (R), what is actually performed by the students following the initiation which produced by the teacher
Feedback/follow up (F), the last exchange of a turn which aims to give feedback to students’ response
THEORIES
initiation (I), the movement in which teacher initiates an
interaction, as stated by Dayag et al. (2008, p.5)
According to Harmer (2009, p. 111), initiation is the stage “when the teacher has to do something is to get the students involved, engage and ready.”
The teacher initiates, the learner responds, the teacher
gives feedback (Sinclair & Coulthard, 1975).
Dayag et al (2008, p.5) state that response is represent the teacher initiate in response of initiation move by participants act
According to Dayag et al. (2008, p.5) that feedback completes the cycle as it provides closure to the initiation and response. It means that students get immediately the correction or evaluation for their response.

CONCEPT AND PRINCIPLES OF IRF
Concept
It is believe that the concept of IRF is to create an active interaction between the teacher and students.
Teacher initiation, in which the teacher introduces the students by asking questions, gathering information, and selecting the pupils who will have the next opportunity to answer, exemplifies this.
A teacher initiates an engagement with students by asking a question or doing an action. Students engage in order to respond to instructor stimuli that signify responses. Feedback completes the cycle by bringing the initiation and reaction to a closure.
Principle
Interaction (I) A teacher engages students in conversation => Response (S) Students participate in order to respond => Feedback (F) which brings the initiation and reaction to a close.
