I can connect this to student engagement. For an assignment I have on "datasets and codebooks," for instance, Cathleen commented on getting feedback from students about what types of data they would like to learn, so that I can show them how to play around with a dataset that they may be interested in learning more about. having technology templates is a huge takeaway for me and I didn't realize Google forms could do that - RZ
I want to try to create fully accessible digital materials. I want to improve my skills with creating accessible pdfs.
I I use a portfolio based assessment in my course, but I want to improve on communicating its value and relevance to students. I do this in the beginning, but it's a big project, so I want to work on revisiting the purpose of it throughout the course to build buy-in-Cathleen.
Inclusive teaching connects well to student engagement. If students feel welcome and like they belong in their learning community, they are more likely to be actively engaged. - Sarah
-asking students about their preferred pronouns
-identifying my positionality (background) so that students are also aware of where it is that I am coming from, and for me to also be aware of my own bias etc.
-including more scholars of color/scholars from the global south in my list of readings to provide a more inclusive environment for students
-lastly, including a land acknowledgement about the Indigenous lands that we are speaking from.

This was a good reminder to be more aware when designing prompts. I feel like I've gotten better in syllabi and course content but forget to update my assignments with inclusion in mind-RZ
I'm excited to do a workshop that includes students opinion on our teaching materials - RZ
I want to develop a diversity and inclusion statement to share with students and frame our work together. I think the public acknowledgment of it and commitment to inclusion is important.-Cathleen

I lets student engagement help determine accessibility. I asked students about their previous experiences with Sakai. What is difficult to access? How do they want the assignments organized? How often do you want announcements?
Assessments connect with course design since it's important to ensure they are aligned with course learning outcomes. (Cathleen)

I concur with Cathleen. I develop my assessments based on my course learning outcomes. I focus on 1 or 2 course learning outcomes and make sure that I tackle them for each assignment that I have for students. (Nusta)
Creating a social presence is something I feel like I've been able to do well during in person sessions. by making personal connections with students...harder to do this in a online course although I still try. I think when students feel personally connected to you and other students it helps them engage more in course content. (Andrea)
I definitely need to be better about captioning all of my videos and checking accessibility for my docs - RZ
I think student engagement and creating an inclusive learning environment go hand and hand (Andrea)
Had trouble adding but I like with student engagement, and integrating lesson plans into their own community/lives…and group interactions/activities to build more relationships between the students

I didn't really think about accessibility much before this. I plan to create more accessible material when creating videos and other materials (Andrea)
