revenge and prejudice
monster begins life as warm and open hearted but as he is abandoned and mistreated by victor and De Lacey family and most other people he turns to revenge as he has been hurt by the unfair rejection of humanity and cannot see past the prejudice
"feelings of revenge and hatred filled my bosom and I bent my mind towards injury and death" - after he is attacked by felix and flees de lacey family, revenge is the only thing he has as he has been sliminated from societys acceptance
accepts he'll never be accpeted by human society and by taking revenge he eliminates any hope of this
victor vows revenge on the monster "that i might have him within my grasp to wreak a great and signal revenge on his cursed head"

every human in the novel assumes the monster is dangerous just by looks and the monster finds himself continuously assaulted and rejected

blind man is the only one who accepts the monster and proves that humanity is blinded by their own prejudice

society and isolation

victor became lost in his studies and cut off ties to society losing sight of responsibilities and the consequences of his actions "i shunned my fellow creatures as if i had been guilty of a crime"
monster becomes vengeful due to the isolation he is forced to endure not because he is evil but because isolation fills him with overwhelming hate and anger "i longed to join them"

walton and victor both dream of their ambitions and gaining glory from them but this meant they became blinded by their dreams and fail to consider that they might be fallible and produce horrific consequences

nature portrayed as greatest force in the world and positive words like "sublime" are used to convey this unfathomable power
in victors hope to discover "mysteries of creation" and "pioneer a new way" by penetrating the "citadel of nature" he is going against all that which is natural and in the end it is nature that prevails destroying victor as a result of his misguided attempt to manipulate being

victor sacrifices his family, sanity and life for the sake of ambitious discovery
