What is Jazz?
Created in U.S.A, it's a blend of styles like Gospel, brass bands, African music, blues and Spanish music. It has a lot of variety of rhythms and instruments, that shift throughout the song.

Improvisation
The most known part of jazz. The musician will create a melody in a solo, as the music go on. It's used a pentatonic scale, which is composed by only 5 notes.
Where did it start?
It was invented by African-American musicians in New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 1800. It got really popular by 1920, and the center for jazz moved to Chicago and New York.
Jazz Age
It got REALLY popular in 1920, and the decade even became called "The Jazz Age", by historians, It also was a time of prohibition when alcohol was illegal. There were clubs called "spekeasies" that sold alcohol. These clubs featured jazz music and dance.
Later Jazz
In the 1930 - 1940, all big bands were playing it, there was new dance styles, and more complex instrumetal techniques.

Insteresting Facts
Jazz bands often played on steamboats, (boats moved by steam power, driving propellers or paddlewheels) travelling around mississippi river.
Jazz dances include: Charleston Black Bottom, Shimmy and Trot.
United States named April 30th as the international Jazz day.
