Social relations are at the forefront: addressed to the person and not content of what child asked to do

Stubbornness

: motive for stubbornness=child is bound by initial decision
differs from persistence - persistence = child wants something very much and persistently tries to get it
stubbornness= child insists on something they don't want or haven't wanted in a long time

Obstinacy: central for this age
Impersonal
rebellion - directed outward; child instists on their OWN way
against way of life that developed up to that point; against norms of rearing
willfulness = self-will
tendency of child toward independence; child wants to do everything themself
did not exist previously
Protest-rebellion
behavior has protesting character; frequent arguments with adults - in constant conflict with those around them
Devaluation
devalues/rejects toys
vocabulary - words/terms express everything bad/negative
all things devalued do not actually cause unpleasantness
Despotism or Jealousy
Child tries to reestablish state that existed in early childhood - when all wishes were carried out & was master of situation
