Duncan's kingly behaviour

Follow the divine right of kings- they are chosen by god

Duncan depicted as a good and rifgtful king- Macbeth murdered him through ambition and not him being a poor king

Duncan named malcolm his successor and the play follows him rightfully being restored to his kingly righteousness in opposition to Macbeth

Macbeth's reign causes disorder, suffering and death na is everything a king should not be whereas Malcolm is shown to have teh desired attributes of a rightful king- fiar and putting the country first

Has strength to punish traitors

Is polite, respectful and caring to those of a low rank

Rewards bravery and loyalty

'go get him surgeons'

'O valient cousin, worthy gentleman'

'and with his former title greet macbeth'

His subjects view

'Duncan hath borne faculties so meek, hath been so clear in his great office, that his virtues will plead liek angels, trumpet-tongued, against the deep damnation of his taking off'

'Most sacrilegious murder hath broke ope the lords anointed temple'

'his silver skin laced with his golden blood...breach in nature'

Tests Macduff and compares himself to Macbeth

Malcolm understands the responsibility and service required of a king'

He says he will cure 'severed lovers' and recall people who flead, he also denounces Macbeth.

He says 'we will perform in measure, time and place' showing order and reflection
