REASONS AND EFFECTS OF COVID-19 ON OUR LIVES
MENTAL HEALTH
Lockdown measures have increased feelings of loneliness, isolation, restlessness and anxiety.
Millions of people have been quickly forced to adapt to new realities and make drastic lifestyle changes, which in many cases led to depression.
Sufferers of “long COVID” are still experiencing symptoms months after testing positive. They also appear to experience mental health issues, which can be triggered by a range of factors including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), lethargy, fatigue and olfactory disorders such as a loss of their sense of smell.
EDUCATION
Unexpected school closures are shown to negatively influence children’s learning outcomes.
Hundreds of millions of children rely on schools for free or low-price meals throughout the year, which in many cases were not available during Covid-19.
School closures exposed many children to violence (including sexual violence and forced marriage) at home and in their communities.
The positiv thing is, that we learned several new things about technology, which will be useful in the future.
REASONS FOR THE OUTBREAK
Global travel helped Covid-19 virus to spread really quickly.Without this extraordinary global mobility, the new coronavirus may have stayed in China and neighbouring countries, or at least not spread so quickly. Instead, the millions of flights that take-off each month helped the spread of the coronavirus to most of the world within a few months.
Urbanisation also helped the virus to spread. Many of the cities with growing numbers of people are already struggling with infrastructure, housing, sanitation, transport and health care facilities. In many cases this means an increasing number of people living in overcrowded and unhygienic environments in which infectious diseases can thrive.
The way in which people and animals come into contact today is significantly increasing the risk of outbreaks of zoonotic diseases, those that originate in animals. Many recent disease epidemics have originated in this way, and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is suspected to have originated in bats, just as recent Ebola epidemics have. The national and international trade in wildlife also puts people in contact with animal infections that can then spread from person to person and potentially become a pandemic.
ECONOMY
Many people have lost their jobs or seen their incomes cut.
Unemployment rates have increased across major economies.
The travel industry has been badly damaged, with airlines cutting flights and customers cancelling business trips and holidays.
As shoppers had to stay at home, online shopping was significantly boosted.
Governments around the world have pledged billions of dollars for a Covid-19 vaccine and treatment options.
TOURISM
The appearance of the lethal disease COVID-19 has resulted in massive financial losses and caused global health and economic crises worldwide The most frightening news of the seasonal influenza outbreaks, epidemics, pandemics, and catastrophes results in a steep decrease in the travel and tourism industry.
The global pandemic, the first of its scale in a new era of interconnectedness, has put 100 million jobs at risk, many in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises that employ a high share of women, who represent 54 % of the tourism workforce.
Tourism-dependent countries will likely feel the negative impacts of the crisis for much longer than other economies. Contact-intensive services key to the tourism and travel sectors are disproportionately affected by the pandemic and will continue to struggle until people feel safe to travel again.
TREATMENTS
Patients today have more treatment options in the battle against coronavirus disease. One drug treatment for COVID-19 has been already authorized others are for emergency use during this public health emergency. In addition, many more therapies are being tested in clinical trials to evaluate whether they are safe and effective in combating COVID-19.
Talk to your health care provider about available treatment options if you have COVID-19. Your provider will know the best option for you, based on your symptoms, risks, and health history.
Antiviral drug Veklury (remdesivir) for adults and certain pediatric patients with COVID-19.
Monoclonal antibody treatments for COVID-19 are at some cases available. Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-made molecules that act as substitute antibodies. They can help your immune system recognize and respond more effectively to the virus, making it more difficult for the virus to reproduce and cause harm.
In general, most people have mild illness and can recover at home. If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19, notify your doctor, monitor your symptoms, and get emergency medical care immediately for emergency warning signs, such as trouble breathing.
Vaccines are good for prevention. They protect you from serious symptoms.
