In the US there has been an ongoing problem with homelessness and housing. Home ownership provides families with the means to invest in education, business, opportunities, retirement and resources for the next generation. The banking crisis of 2008 and the collapse of the housing market, led many people to misery due to homelessness and people behind on mortgage payments. As a result, since 2008 almost 11 million homes have been repossessed, 3.5 million more home owners are behind on payments.
