Original Investigation - “On average, participants exposed to imagery related to worlds (group2) will score higher on accurate word recall than participants in group 1 (control).”

variables

extraneous (room temp, food consumption, caffeine consumption) - All these different extraneous variables could have an affect on how each individual performed during the experiment. The temperature of the room could have impacted the results as if it was hot in the room it would have been harder to concentrate, as well as being hungry. If some students had consumed caffeine before the experiment took place it could have made them more hyperactive which could either benefit the person or not.
IV (use of work imagery) - The independent variables gave a good representation of different techniques and the results were easily comparable.
DV (words accurately recalled) - because the data from the experiment is objective quantitive data it is very easily interpreted. The data is either yes or no which makes the data very easily to graph and compare.

disadvantages
Having psychology students that are aware of the process of memory and recalling gives a bias because they have an advantage. If the experiment was done using people with no knowlage of the psychology of memory it would have been more accurate.
The advantage of this is that all the psychology students were familiar with this type of experiment it was very easy to perform and get the results quickly.

The method of counting the amount of recalled words was very easy to do and was not at all time consuming. It was also reliable because the partner marked it which means there was not chance for the other person to change their own answers. Measuring the result using the amount of words recalled was the obvious way to measure because it is straight forward and reliable.
The method of counting the amount of recalled words was also slightly floored because it was reliant on the person counting. They could have easily made a mistake counting. (missed counted the words)
