Shield Volcano
a type of volcano named for its low profile, resembling a warrior's shield lying on the ground. It is formed by the eruption of highly fluid lava, which travels farther and forms thinner flows than the more viscous lava erupted from a stratovolcano.
Constructive Forces
processes that cause the Earth's surface to build up or rise; depositions, earthquakes, faults, and volcanoes

-
Contour
joins points of equal elevation (height) above a given level, such as mean sea level.
Pyroclastic Flow
a dense, destructive mass of very hot ash, lava fragments, and gases ejected explosively from a volcano and typically flowing downslope at great speed.
-
Lava
magma once it has been expelled from the interior of a terrestrial planet or a moon onto its surface.
Vent
a vent in the earth's crust through which lava, steam, ashes, etc., are expelled, either continuously or at irregular intervals.
Pahoehoe lava
a Hawaiian word used to describe a lava flow with a smooth, ropy surface
Cinder Cone Volcano
a steep conical hill of loose pyroclastic fragments, such as volcanic clinkers, volcanic ash, or cinder that has been built around a volcanic vent.
-
Magma
hot fluid or semifluid material below or within the earth's crust from which lava and other igneous rock is formed on cooling.
-
Crater
a bowl- or funnel-shaped depression that usually lies directly above the vent from which volcanic material is ejected.
