Aarne-Thompson-Uther classification is a collection and sorting of several folktales into several groups.
a classification system is designed to help folklorists identify structures of traditional folktales, so they can organize, classify, and analyze folktales.
Thompson created a series of tale types for each tale to fit, and then break it down further.

First created by a Finnish folklorist, Antti Aarne, in 1910.
An American folklorist, Stith Thompson, revised and expanded it in 1928 and again in 1961.
German folklorist, Hans-Jorg Uther, revised and expanded in 2004.
The A-T-U classification system is the result of a series of revisions and expansions by the experts of folktales and folklores around the world, such as Finnish folklorist Antti Aarne, American folklorist Stith Thompson, and folklorist Hans Jorg Uther from Germany.
