Members of the public may give evidence or present petitions, but this type doesn't usually attract public interest

Private Members' Bill:

These bills are put into a ballot at the start of the yr - 7 are then picked out and guranteed a reading
Virtually no chance of being turned into law - either can't get enough support for further debates or the gov opposes
May attract attention of ministers - could then be used later - but generally MPs/peers use it to bring attention to the topic

Public Bills:

Preceded by White Paper (summarises the intentions & terms of the bill) which is debated and voted on - any potential problems are identified at this stage
