DeafBlind audience had challenges, the stage was higher, there was no tactile opportunities, The PTTI DeafBlind Protactile Theater Institute created the DeafBlind way, interactions with the actors was possible.
Oral literature, it is not superior. It is different. You cannot translate ASL stories to English or vice versa, the meaning can be lost.
Deaf literature cannot be written, spoken or signed, sometimes it is body movement what it is used to tell a story.
Media and arts are popular in the Deaf community, photography, cinematography, comics, cartoons.
Cultural appropriation: People taking advantage of Deaf people. Hearing people sign for money or fame when they are not been paid to translate to a Deaf audience.
Having hearing actors portray a Deaf Person it is not well seen by the black, Asian, Latino, Deaf or LGBTQ community. Usually it is seeking fame or followers.
How can this behavior improve? Hiring Deaf actors to portray Deaf characters on TV or movies, same as Latino, Black or Asians.
Reality shows are welcoming Deaf dancers, actors, designers. People are recognizing the professional work Deaf people can provide to hearing and Deaf audiences.
"Hearing is not a prerequisite for appreciating music" Percussion songs, tactile beats, drums, clapping. There are Deaf Rappers and groups.
Musical concerts done in spoken language are interpreted for the Deaf, DeafBlind and Deaf Disable. Interpreters analyze and memorize movement, expressions to deliver the correct meaning.
One of the Interpreters or people who knows how to sign mistakes, is to sign for profit or fame, social media followers, or social media presence. This is offensive, ASL it is not their natural language, it is offensive.
A hearing professional sign language interpreter must have ethical approaches. Unless he or she is interpreting, people should refrain from posting ASL videos.
Do not accept interviews about interpreting for someone famous. Confidentiality it is a must, we must give ASL respect.
