Furunculosis
Definition
Is a painful, pus-filled bump under the skin caused by infected, inflamed hair follicles.
Causes
Poor (hygiene and nutrition)
Anemia
internal foci of infection
Diabetes mellitus
Problems with the immune system
Clinical manifestation
red, tender lumps filled with pus
A fever may develop
Swollen lymph nodes
Pathophysiology
is a localized deep suppurative necrotizing form of folliculitis which involves the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue
Staphylococcus aureus is the most common causative agent
Following abrasion or cut the pathogen uses the wound site to invade and colonize the hair follicle
Management
Warm compresses atleast 10 times for 10 min per day
Avoid squeezing it yourself preventing spread of infection
Wash your hands thoroughly after treating a boil.

Is the building up of ear wax in the ear that blocks ear canal

Over production of ear wax due to injury
Clinical manifestation
Hearing loss

Ear bleeding

Nursing Management
It should be removed by health care provider using eardrops
Avoid cleaning ears using cotton wool buds
Wax that is on the tympanic membrane not to be removed by anyone but professional nurse or physician
Ear irrigation is not safe since it can harm eardrum if not done properly
Tell patient to avoid water entering ear
Pathophysiology
skin glands produces ear wax in the outer ear that migrates outwards athus plug the ear canal
If the wax is over produced it may become hard and accumulates canal
preventing sound passage to the tympanic (eardrum) membrane
It is painless
