      - Used in - kitchenware, medical equipment
    - - Composition - iron + >2.8% carbon
      - Melting point - 1200 c
      - Used for - machine parts, brake discs, manhole covers
  - - - Composition - pure Aluminium
      - Melting point - 660 c
      - Used in - aircraft, engine parts
    - - Melting point - 1100 c
      - Composition - pure copper
      - Used in wires, gas and water pipes
    - - Composition - copper + zinc
      - Melting point - 900 c
      - Used in - plumbing and door fittings, musical instruments
  - - - Plywood - High strength to weight ratio, strong in every direction. High impact resistance, vertasile, economical use of woods and available in large sheets for less wastage
      - Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) - Cheap, smooth ungrained surface good for painting or staining, easy to machine. Doesn't look good, weaker than real wood or plywood, tools blunt quickly, used for cheap flat pack furniture, wall panels, display cabinets and storage units

      - Mahogany

    - - Pine
      - Cedar
  - - - Used for writing, drawing and printing
      - Advantages - Takes colour well, good surface for pens and cheap and available in many colours
      - Disadvantages - can result in jamming printer feeds.
    - - Used for drawing and printing, can be used for watercolour also.
      - Advantages - accepts most drawing media well and is opaque
      - Disadvantages - more expensive than copier paper
    - - Used for art, working drawings
      - Advantages - strong, translucent
      - Disadvantages - Expensive, doesn't hold ink well
    - - Uses - for cereal boxes, food packaging
      - Advantages - good for scoring without splitting, accepts print well, inexpensive
      - Disadvantages - low strength
