in 1923, stresseman became chancellor of the Weimar Republic
he scrapped the old German currency , the Mark and bought in a temporary currency (The Renten). this stopped hyperinflation and made German money have a worth again

context: After WW1, treaty of Versailles was opposed on Germany ( signed on the 28 of June 1919). in the treaty stood a war guilt clause. as a result of this Germany armed forces were reduced to 100,000 men. only 6 war ships and no aircrafts submarines or armoured vehicles.
Germany also had to pay 6600 million pounds in war reparations payments for the damage caused by German forces in the war. was decided in 1921 however was changes later.
German people felt betrayed by Weimar Republic and the treaty caused resentment towards weimar goverment. Felt stabbed in the back by the German goverment.
by 1919 thousands of the German public were poor and stsrving. This caused riots and rebeloins. the extreme left wanted a revelation and also the right rebelled aghast the weimar goverment.
in 1923, Germany couldn't pay its war reparations . germans intrustry was devastated again. Germany tried to solve their problem by printing more money. but this plunged the economy into hyper- inflation
consequences of hyper-inflation: Germany currency became worthless. no one wanted to trade with Germany so food shortages grew worse. bank saving became worthless. and a result hurt the middle- class.

The Depression
context: in October 1929, the Wall Street stock market in America and sparked a international economic crisis. Germany eonomic recovery was built on unstable grounds and was dependant on loans from the US. after the Crash USA couldn't afford to pay theses loans, also wanted to be repaid.
political parties
KBD ( the communist party of Germany) this party was founded in December 1918 and wanted a workers reveloution. they promised anti represent the workers and make the German society more fair.. the party gained a lot of support from the unemployed during the economic crisis. when the great depression hit in Germany 1929 the Kid competed with nazi party for the support of germans. however the Nazi party grew rapidly and soon the KPD party was left behind.
the nazi rise: after the Great Depression the party popularity rose. as he promised to make Germany great again and appealed to the ranks of unemployment and young people who wanted a greater future. some people also supported Germany for their anti-communism and anti-jewish veiws. they saw communists and jews as 'scapegoats' blaming them for germanys economic problems.
