Veins:
They are large vessels which have thinner walls than arteries and they carry blood from body cells to the heart.

Composition
The blood vessels are composed of capillaries, arteries, veins.
Arteries: The arteries contain 3 layers of tissue: The innermost, middle, outer layer. The innermost is called the epithelial tissue, the middle layer is made out of smooth muscle tissue, and the outer layer is made of a flexible connective tissue.
Veins: The veins are made of 3 layers of tissue: They are the Tumica Externa, Tumica Media, and Tumica intima. The Tumica media intima contains the valve and the Endothelium, the Tumica Media contains the smooth muscle, the Elastic fibers and the Basement Membrane, and the Tumica Externa has the outer coat.
Capillaries: They are made up by a layer of epithelial cells. The walls are really thin so materials can exchange easily. The waste products and the blood travel in different direction, it happens through the capillary walls.
Function
The function of the blood vessels is to carry and distribute blood and nutrients around all the body.
Important facts
The pressure of the veins is very low, meanwhile the arteries pressure is high. This is because the blood flows with higher pressure near the heart.
