Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa. (2,000 years)
Aksum was an ancient kingdom existed from 100 AD to 940 AD centred on the ancient city of Aksum in northern Ethiopia.
International trade influenced wealth in Aksum, and we can observe by the architectural legacy of the Empire, such as the giant stelae obelisks.
Aksumite merchant usually exported resources such as salt, rhinoceros horns, tortoise shells, ivory, emeralds, and gold.
In otherwise they would import things such as cloth, glass, olive oil, wine, brass, iron, and copper.
The stelae had the function to mark graves, been often decorated with false doors and windows to represent a multi-story place.
It had a connection between Caravan and Egypt in the Aksum's location, as a hub.
Aksum became an international trade power because of its access to the sea along the Red Sea.
Christianity was brought to Aksum via merchants in
the 4th century.

Christianity also afforded the possibility of unifying the many diverse ethnic and linguistic peoples of the Aksumite kingdom under a common vision.
