→ could not play major role in govern. for his
13 month leadership
he therefore achieved very little as a soviet leader
→ would have Gorbachev lead meetings on his behalf
CONCLUSION
1953-85
dominated by two attempts to create stable revolutionary govern.
K wanted to maintain
revolutionary dynamism
by
decentralisation, degree of democratisation & keeping leadership of party constantly changing
→ broader vision to keep focus of com party on building socialism - fulfilling goal of Lenin
wanted to end Stalinist terror & create
humane form of socialism
leadership style led to series of problems -
inability
- which played part in downfall

reform stopped, leadership became old & out of touch, revolutionary goals of L forgotten

economic reforms
but wasn't prepared to address SU
fundamental problems or reform foundations of the regime
