MECHANISMS
Fixed pulleys
A fixed pulley is balanced when the effort, F, is equal to the load, R: F = R
-
It is a wheel that has a groovr fot a rope, chain or belt to go around it
-
This reduces de load, R, when effort, F, is applied
Uses: wells, gym equipment
-
Moveable pulleys
-
-
The effort needed to move a load with a moveable pulley is half of the effort needed with a fixed pulley
-
-
Compound pulleys
This is a set of fixed and moveable pulleys, often called a block and tackle.
-
Uses: in passenger lifts, good lifts, cranes
If we use more pulleys it often becomes more complex, but less effort is needed to move the load
Levers
Types
Class 1
-
The effect of the effort applied can be multiplied or reduced depending on where the fulcrum is in relation to the load
:
-
Levers are classsified according to the position of the load and effort applied in relation to the fulcrum
-
There are three types: class 1, class 2 and class 3.
-
Linear motion mechanisms
-
example: a lever or a pulley (fixed, mobile or compound pulley)
