Reproductive system Estrella Valdez Period 6 - Coggle Diagram
Reproductive system Estrella Valdez Period 6
Major functions
Male system delivers sperm to female, Female system houses and nourishes developing embryo and
fetus, Transport cells to the site of fertilization, Deliver, feed and nurture offspring
anatomy of male
Testes
:testis consists of 250 lobules, ovoid structures
Seminiferous
tubules
: Produce sperm cells
Epididymis
:sperm cell maturation, stores sperm cells, sperm cells to ductus deferens
Penis
: urine and semen to outside, sexual intercourse, sensory nerve endings, pleasure during sexual stimulation
Seminal vesicle
alkaline fluid containing nutrients and prostaglandins, regulate pH of semen
Prostate gland
:secrete fluid that nutrient for sperm
Bulbourethral gland
:Secretes fluid to lubricates penis
Scrotum
: closes, protects, and regulates temperature of testes
anatomy of female
Ovary
: Produces oocytes and sex hormones
Uterine tube
: oviducts or Fallopian tubes, fertilization, developing embryo to uterus, expand to form an infundibulum, cells lining have cilia
Uterus
: Protects and sustains embryo, 3 layers of uterine wall, inner is endometrium, muscular wall is myometrium, and outer is perimetrium.
Vagina
: uterine secretions to outside, sexual intercourse, passageway for offspring
Vestibular glands
: Secrete fluid to moistens and lubricates vestibule
Clitoris
: Produces feelings of pleasure, sensory nerve endings in glans
Vestibule
: between labia minora, vaginal and
urethral openings
hormones
Estrogens
:female secondary sexual characteristics, breast, sec ogran growth, increa adipose tiisue, thicken the endometrium,
GnRH
: causes secretion of FSH and LH from the anterior pituitary
FSH
: maturation of a follicle in ovary, follicular cells surround the developing oocyte
LH
: produce testosterone precursors, convert into estrogens in the ovary, triggers ovulation
Androgens
: produce some changes at puberty, pubic and axillary hair growth, broadening of hips
Progesterone
: endometrium become vascular, secrete nutrients for possible embryo
events of hormonal cycle
Ovarian Cycle
: 3 stages are (follicular, phase) 20 primary follicles start maturation, but one dominant follicle completes maturation and takes 28 days for ovulation. (ovulation phase) is releasing the secondary oocyte and polar body to mature follicle and ovary., and( lutal phase) is uterine cycle is divided into menstruation,
Menstrual Cycle
: monthly changes in uterine lining, menarche first cycle that matures and responds to hormones, FSH stimulates maturation, produces and secretes estrogens, releases a surge of LH that triggers ovulation, becomes corpus luteum cells that secrete estrogens and
progesterone, if not fertilized then corpus luteum
destroys , estrogens and progesterone decline, are no longer inhibited and secrete FSH and LH so making the menstrual cycle repeat again.
disorders of reproductive system
Syphilis
: bacterial, divided into stages, primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary, transmitted by sore, vaginal, anal, or oral sex, Signs- sores, rashes, fever, headaches, antibiotic treatment.
Chlamydia
: bacterial, infect both men and women can cause permanent damage to the reproductive system, transmitted by vaginal, anal, oral sex, sign- vaginal discharge, burning urine, pain/swelling testicles, antibiotic treatment.
Gonorrhea
: bacterial, infection in genitals, retume, and throat, transmitted by vaginal, anal, or oral sex, signs- burning urine, white, yellow, green discharge, anal itching, antibiotic treatment.
Trichomoniasis
: bacterial, infection with protozoan parasite called trichomonas vaginalis. transmitted by infected person during intercourse, Signs- itching, burning, redness, discharge, unusual smell, antibiotics treatment.
AIDS/HIV
: viral, weakens the immune system by destroying cells that fight infection and disease, transmitted by anal, vaginal, sharing needles, signs- fevers, chills, rash, sore throat, fatigue, no treatment.
PID
: bacterial, pelvic inflammatory disease, transmitted by douche, IUD sexually active 25 or younger, signs- fever, burning, pain, bleeding, antibiotic treatment.
Bacterial Vaginosis
: bacterial , condition that happens when too much certain bacteria is in the vagina, transmitted by sexually active women, douching, signs- then white/gray discharge, pain, itching, burning fish odor, antibiotic treatment.
methods of contraceptives
Female and male sterilization
: surgical permanent procedure that for women cut the uterine tubes and for males remove the small portion of vas deferens. (99.5%)
IUD
:chemical object implanted in uterus to prevent implantation of embryo by inhibiting the growth of endometrium thicken cervical mucus. (99.8%)
Pill
: chemical swallowing a pill everyday that contains estrogen and progestin to prevent pregnancy that disrupts normal hormonal patterns. (92%)
Diaphrgm
: mechanical, use every time and put in vagina with spermicide to prevent sperm entering the vagina. (88%)
internal condom
: mechanical, use every time, provide protection against STD's and sperm entering the vagina. (79%)
External condom
: mechanical, use every time, provides protection against STD's, and sperm entering the vagina. (87%)
Withdrawal
:behavioral, pull out before ejaculation, some sperm may reach the vagina before ejaculation.(80%)
Injectable
:chemical, shot every 3 months of progesterone derivative to prevent follicle maturation and ovulation.(96%)
